Philosophy

I have always loved to create new things. I have learned how to paint and create sculptures very early.

I have always enjoyed connecting art with purpose. That is how I got the idea to make chairs, cupboards, shelves, interior and accessoires come alive in an artisticall way.

A part from the Vita from Jacob Abitbol

The time he spent at the army and a deployment of six month within the Lebanon War affected the artwork he did afterwards, which was mainly abstract and dealt with war and death. Apart from that, with his artistic works of the 1980’s, he referred to political and social aspects of the Israely society.

In 1989 he started with the series of screenprints which interpretes psalms, the Salomon Song and other jewish-religious texts. In this cycle which is exhibited here, he looked into his own religious background for the first time being at a distance from Israle/ from the distance to Israel. With an expressive picture language, he combines Hebrew characters, Jewish symbols, figurative motives and ornaments with modern, and abstract elements of design. The abundantly provided sheets are partly made up of more than thirty coatings.

In 1993 he came back to the abstract painting in large-sized oil paintings, which are inspired by Jackson Pollock’s and Anselm Kiefer’s abstract expressionism but show an individual form. In addition to the real art he also designs and produces artistic chairs made of wood and metal which are both a signed art object and an object of utility.
